چکیده

Coal mining activities all over the world often introduce serious environmental impact to the local regions, such as the occurrence of land subsidence. Conventional subsidence monitoring is done by precision leveling and GPS surveying. However, recent studies show that differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) is capable of monitoring land subsidence at sub-cm accuracy. In this paper, DInSAR was applied to detect the land subsidence in the Northern China Plain (NCP). This region is well known for being suffering from the mine subsidence. In this study, two-pass DInSAR method was used with a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) C-Band digital elevation model (DEM). Twenty JERS-1 L-band SAR images were used. Based on time-spans and data quality, mainly the atmospheric effect and decorrelation, 4 pairs were selected for demonstrating the land subsidence monitoring. The results revealed the mine subsidence maps which had the different patterns and characteristics than the results shown in our previous studies for the underground mining subsidence in Australia. This is due to the different mining techniques utilised at the two study sites. The results showed that land subsidence was evident at the test site, and more than ten subsidence bowls were found within an area of 8.8 x 23 kilometre square. The maximal subsidence rate of 28 cm over 44 days was found in the study.

Study of subsidence of Abarkooh plain of Yazd using the Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry method

Abstract The population growth, the development of cities, industry, agriculture, and improper use of resources especially non-renewable resources have led human beings to face the danger of running out of resources. In some cases, in addition to the above, irreversible environmental and geological hazards have occurred due to the overdrawn of resources. Over extraction of groundwater resourc...

Monitoring of urban subway lines subsidence Using satellite radar interferometry method (Study area: Part of Tehran Metro Line 7)

Nowadays, satellite radar interferometry method plays an important role in calculating natural and artificial displacements, including displacements caused by floods, earthquakes, landslides, drilling of unauthorized wells, drilling of urban tunnels, etc. Metro tunneling is very important due to the importance of preventing irreparable financial and human losses. In Tehran, especially due to th...

Spaceborne Radar Interferometry for Mine Subsidence Monitoring in Australia

Land surface deformation can be caused by underground mining activities. The maximum subsidence normally occurs directly above the location of the excavation of the coal seam. In the case where the longwall mining technique is applied, the magnitude and shape of the subsidence bowl are constrained by the longwall structure (pillar). This paper describes the use of satellite radar interferometry...

Differential Radar Interferometry and Its Application in Monitoring Underground Coal Mining-induced Subsidence

Ground subsidence due to underground coal mining threatens the safety of surface infrastructure such as buildings, roads, bridges, powerlines and telecommunication cables, and can cause environmental problems such as water pollution, cessation of stream flow, and so on. Monitoring the spatial distribution of surface deformation may be helpful for land-use planning, land reclamation, safety and ...

Satellite radar interferometry for mine subsidence monitoring

Australia is one of the world’s leading mineral resource extraction and exporting nations. Underground mining can cause ground surface displacement, which may in turn have serious impacts on the environment or man-built facilities. This paper describes the results of a study into the feasibility of surface subsidence (caused by underground coal mining) monitoring using differential interferomet...
